On arrival, disorder, and the passing of the burden

Not long after,

the roads filled with strangers.

25:2

Men without work.

25:3

Women with children.

25:4

People who had lost not only bread,

but direction.

25:5

They came because they had heard of the town.

25:6

Of food shared.

25:7

Of work without shame.

25:8

Of a man who answered questions.

25:9

But the questions had changed.

25:10

They asked,

"What should we do?"

25:11

They asked,

"Where should we go?"

25:12

They asked,

"Who is in charge?"

25:13

Christopher listened.

25:14

Then he turned to me.

25:15

He said only,

"Now is the time to act."

25:16

I waited for instruction.

25:17

None came.

25:18

The people looked at me.

25:19

And I understood

that the season of answers was ending.

25:20

And the season of decisions had begun.
