On prayer returned, and the refusal of false names

8:1

That night, I prayed for the first time in years.

8:2

I did not ask forgiveness.

8:3

I asked guidance.

8:4

I said,

"Lord, can I make her happy

as a husband,

while bound as I am?"

8:5

No answer came.

8:6

So I went to Christopher.

8:7

I said,

"I am a cripple."

8:8

He answered,

"No."

8:9

I said,

"I cannot walk."

8:10

He replied,

"Walking is not life."

8:11

He said,

"Your heart is able to heal."

8:12

"Your words are able to guide."

8:13

"Your hands are able to plow."

8:14

"And your mouth is able to eat."

8:15

He said,

"A snail does not have legs

and lives a full life."

8:16

"A fish does not have legs

and lives a full life."

8:17

He said,

"It is time you stop measuring yourself

by what you cannot do."

8:18

"And begin rejoicing

in what you can."

8:19

I returned to my room

and did not write.

8:20

I slept.
